How to Fix/Repair Damaged SD Card and Recover Data

When your SD card or USB is damaged or corrupted due to certain reasons, your data will usually become inaccessible. If you try to open it on your computer, Windows will remind you that the card is not accessible because the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. 1. Plug in your SD card to your computer with a card reader.

2. Go to the start menu, type in "cmd" in a search bar, hit enter and then you can see something named "cmd. exe" in a list of programs.

3. Left-click "cmd. exe" and then you will get the following command windows that allow you to fix your corrupted SD card without formatting.

4. Type in "chkdsk /X /f sd card letter:" or "chkdsk sd card letter: /f ", for example,"chkdsk /X /f G:" or "chkdsk h: /f".

After finishing all the steps, Windows will have checked and fixed the file system of the SD card. It usually takes several minutes. After that, if you see "Windows has made corrections to the file system" in the command window, then congratulations!

The damaged SD card is successfully fixed, and you can see your data again.

2 -  Scan and Repair the SD Card

If you are not very good at CMD command, you can also right click the SD card and repair the logical error.

1. Connect the SD card to your PC

2. Go to My Computer>The SD card.

3. Right-click the SD card and open its Properties.

4. Click on the Tools tab.

5. Click the "Check" button.

6. Let the scan process get completed. Close the scan window once it completes.

7. Right-click the icon of the USB flash drive and click "Eject". Then remove SD card. 

Step 2 - Recover Data from the Repaired SD Card

When you have successfully repaired your SD card, you are able to access the SD card. If the files are still on the SD card, please transfer the SD card data to another place as soon as possible. If the files are missing, recover them with the help of a professional data recovery tool.
