If you have the same concern, you are in the right spot. Google Chrome is one of the most popular browsers, but it is generally difficult to remove from your devices, leaving you perplexed by persistent problems despite the best efforts to uninstall it.

So, if you want to get out of this situation, read on this page from EaseUS and discover how to fix the "can't uninstall Google Chrome" error.

How to Solve Can't Uninstall Google Chrome Issue

You may be unable to remove Chrome because it has not been entirely stopped and is still operating in the background. This may also happen because the installation files are corrupt. So, here are some solutions that will undoubtedly help you.

  1. Way 1. End All Google Chrome Related Processes via Task Manager
  2. Way 2. Turn Off 'Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed'
  3. Way 3. Disable Or Remove All Google Chrome Extensions

Way 1. End All Google Chrome Related Processes via Task Manager

This approach involves manually stopping all running Google Chrome processes using Task Manager to ensure that no background activities interfere with the uninstalling process. It eliminates any potential obstacles to Chrome's clean uninstallation. Here are the steps to do this:

Step 1. Press "Ctrl" + "Shift" + "Esc" to open Task Manager. This is where you can find all the background and foreground apps that are currently in use.

Step 2. In the Processes tab, locate any processes with "Google Chrome" or "chrome.exe" listed.

Step 3. Right-click on each Chrome process and choose the "End Task" option.

Step 4. Ensure that all Chrome processes are terminated before proceeding with the uninstallation.

Way 2. Turn Off 'Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed'

This approach involves deactivating the option that permits Google Chrome to continue running background programs even after it has stopped to prevent it from being terminated during the removal process.

So, follow the steps outlined below to disable this function and ensure that Chrome completely shuts down, allowing for its removal.

Step 1. Launch Google Chrome and hit the three-dot icon in the upper right corner.

Step 2. Select "Settings" from the drop-down menu.

Step 3. Now scroll down to find the System tab and click on it.

Step 4. Under the "System" section, toggle off the option "Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed."

Step 5. Restart Google Chrome to apply the changes.

Step 6. Now proceed with the uninstallation process.

Way 3. Disable Or Remove All Google Chrome Extensions

Conflicting or problematic extensions occasionally cause issues during the uninstallation process. Disabling or deleting these will make the uninstalling process go more smoothly. So, you can follow the steps given below to disable or remove all Google Chrome extensions from your device:

Step 1. Open Google Chrome and hit the three-dot icon in the top right corner.

Step 2. Select "Extensions" and then click on "Manage Extensions" from the drop-down menu.

Step 3. Disable all your extensions by toggling off the switch or remove them by clicking the "Remove" button.

Step 4. Now restart Google Chrome to apply the changes.

Once all extensions have been deactivated or uninstalled, uninstall Google Chrome from Windows Settings or the Control Panel.
