  • Click on the Start button and go to My Computer.

Fix 2. Run the Office Repair tool

  • In Windows 10, 8 or 7, open Control Panel, click Programs and Features and click on Microsoft Office.
  • On the window, click Repair and then Continue.
  • You can choose Online Repair and Quick Repair. Let the repair finish and restart your computer.

Fix 3. Run and open Word in Safe Mode

  • Press the Ctrl key while you start Word.
  • Click Yes at the prompt to open in Safe Mode.
  • Can you save the file? If yes, start Word normally.
  • Click on the Microsoft Office Button.
  • Click on the Word Options button.
  • Click on Add-ins and check the active Application Add-ins listed. It's quite likely that one of the Add-ins is interfering.
