How Many External Backup Drives Should I Have?

I want to back up my data on my Windows 10 computer to external hard drives to release disk space. But I do not know how many external hard drives I should have for backup. Are there any suggestions on how many external backup drives should I have? Any suggestions will be great.

The short answer is 2️⃣: one with your computer and a remote one somewhere else. This is because having all your data in just one location leaves them vulnerable to theft, flooding, fire, electrical problems, etc.

In addition, according to the 3-2-1 backup rule, the ideal backup solution is 3 copies in at least 2 locations. That is to say; you should store your backups in different locations.

You could also use a Cloud backup, but I wouldn't suggest using it as your only backup plan. It is especially not a good idea if your data is important, confidential, etc., such as financial data or work you don't want others to steal.

You are entrusting your data to someone else to protect for you because the Cloud is merely another person's "computer". This means that person will never hold your data in the same regard as you do because they didn't do the same amount of work to obtain it.
