I have a 2016 server VM run by vSphere attached with a secondary 2TB VHD. I need to expand this to at least 3TB, but the last system admin used MBR for some reason. From what I understand, there is no way to convert MBR to GPT without reformatting. I have about 200 PCs connecting to the share via GPO drive maps. What is the best way to convert VHD from MBR to GPT?

According to your question, it can be known that you need to convert your VHD from MBR to GPT in a way that makes little impact on the 200 computer users. Based on my experience, there are some ways for you to fix your problem.
The first method is to depend on the computer's DiskPart. This way is suitable for users who are familiar with computer knowledge, and it is a little complicated and time-consuming. You can follow the below steps:
Step 1. Back up the VHD before opening DiskPart. It is essential as using DiskPart removes all data from the partition.
Step 2. Enter the Start menu and type cmd.
Step 3. Right-click on Command Prompt and select Run as administrator.
Step 4. Type diskpart and press Enter. If asked for permission, click on Yes.
Step 5. Enter the following commands and press Enter one by one:
Step 6. It will delete all the partitions on the disk and then convert them to GPT.
Step 7. Type exit after the conversion process is complete.
In a word, the first method will make you lose all your data. Therefore, you must make a backup of your key data before the conversion. And it is not suitable for inexperienced computer users. There is another easier and simpler way for you to refer to. It is to depend on a third-party software: EaseUS Partition Master. This software will help you convert the VHD from MBR to GPT in a short time and in easy steps. You can try this conversion tool.

After the above operation, it is believed that you can convert your VHD from MBR to GPT in a simple way that makes little impact on the 200 computer users. Besides the above feature, the EaseUS Partition Master has some other features, such as :
Briefly, comparing the above two methods, it is suggested that you can choose the second method, which can help you fix your problem in a more operable way, and you will not lose your data. Therefore, the EaseUS Partition Master is a good option for you. Why not have a try? Good luck.
