Insufficient Disk Space on Mail Server, How to Free Up

The mail server stores user mail files on drive D. Whenever the space used on drive D: approaches 2TB, the Lotus Domino server gives the error 'Insufficient disk space.' We have to keep cleaning the mailboxes to ensure that the 2TB limit is not exceeded. Is there a workaround?

If your drive D is formatted with 3.26TB of space, but you can only use up to 2TB of space, the partitioning style is likely the cause. There are two main partition tables on Windows Server, MBR and GPT:

  • MBR has a 2TB limit for hard disks, and space beyond 2TB will not be available.
  • GPT has no limit on the hard disk size and can create 128 primary partitions.

If Mail Server runs out of space, you can format a 3TB hard drive and use all the space by converting MBR to GPT. You can try the following method to do the conversion.

If you are worried about data loss, EaseUS Partition Master Server should be the best choice. It's an advanced disk management tool that allows you to convert MBR to GPT directly without deleting partitions and files.
