How to Fix Files in Half Full Partition but Not Showing Up

Windows is installed on my SSD's C drive, which is partitioned into D. My E drive is a standalone standard HDD. I just observed today that the D drive says I have 30.6GB free out of 54.5GB, but nothing appears when I go into the disk. I checked for hidden files, the status bar displays 0 items, and the recycle bin is empty. This also shows up in the properties as having 23.9GB of used space. Is there any way to see what's on there, or any other way to get to the bottom of this?
