PS5 Says Not Enough Space for Game Updates but Plenty of Space Is Available

I seem to not have enough space on my PS5, which is a problem because I need to install a game update. The available space is nearly 190 GB, yet the update is less than 70 GB. How can this happen? I appreciate any advice you may have.

This issue may occur because the PS5 manages storage space and allocates it for game updates. Thus, you must ensure the games are installed on the SSD by default. You may need to clear and free up the console storage before installing the game updates.

If you have PS4 games, you may need a portable SSD and leave the console & M.2 storage for PS5 games only. Choose a suitable one from the best PS5 SSD and initialize it for the PS5 on your computer. EaseUS Partition Master Professional is what you are looking for. This tool allows players to initialize and format new SSD for PlayStation consoles. In addition, it can help users clone games from the PS5 original drive to another HDD or SSD.

Step 1. Connect the new SSD to a computer that installed EaseUS Partition Master.

Step 2. Launch this software and get to Partition Manager.

Step 3. Right-click the target disk SSD and select "Initialize to MBR" or "Initialize to GPT." Then click "Execute Task" and "Apply" to save the changes.

Then, you can connect this SSD to your console and format it to be compatible with your PS5:

You will be prompted to format the NVME SSD when you turn on the PS5. It will take a few seconds to complete this task. Because formatting will delete all of the data on the SSD, you must backup all of your important data.
