How to Create and Format A Storage Using ReFS on Hyper-V 2016

I made a 60GB NTFS OS partition during the Hyper-V installation, leaving 2.9TB free for virtual machines. How do I format free space for use with the ReFS file system? I can't find any how to create and format it anywhere.

ReFS file system refers to the Resilient File System, a new generation of advanced file systems introduced to solve the problems of NTFS. However, it is not yet a complete replacement for NTFS. Here are the detailed steps to format to ReFS:

Step 1. Launch EaseUS Partition Master and turn to Partition Manager.

Step 4. Agree with the warning window and Click "Execute 1 Task(s)" and "Apply."

Then, you can use ReFS on Hyper- V 2016.

Notice:
If you want to use Hyper-V on GPT, you need to ensure that the system will boot UEFI. Or you can convert GPT to MBR. EaseUS Partition Master can help you do this.

If you prefer to format using the command line, please refer to the following command for formatting to ReFS using Diskpart: 

  • diskpart
  • list disk
  • select disk X
  • list volume
  • select volume Z
  • format fs=refs quick
