How Do I Write Protect My USB Flash Drive, Help

I have an Apacer USB flash drive. I am planning on keeping antivirus and security applications there. However, the flash drive doesn't have any write-protect switch on it. I need to make sure the drive is write protected so that it doesn't get infected when plugged into other computers.

Write protection is the ability of an external device or software program to prevent new information from being written, meanwhile old information from being modified or changed. When a disk is write-protected, you cannot write or copy data on it. Therefore, sometimes we will protect our data by write-protecting our USB drive. And we will introduce two effective methods to help you enable write protection on your USB drive. The first method you can try is to use EaseUS Partition Master Free, a simple and operable software that can safely enable and disable the write protection. The newly developed feature-the Write Protection Removal tool, can help you lock the USB with simple clicks.

Follow the steps to use EaseUS Partition Master:

Step 1. Click the download button to download EaseUS Partition Master.

Step 2. Select the "Toolkit" section, and tap "Write Protection."

Step 3. Choose the USB drive you want to write-protect and hit "Enable."

In most cases, EaseUS Partition Master will meet your demands, but if you are familiar with the Windows Command Prompt and know much about CMD, you can enable your USB drive by using Dispart.

Here are the detailed steps:

Step 1. Open the Windows Command Prompt, type "diskpart," and hit "Enter."

Step 2. On the Command Prompt, type each command line as follows, and an Enter key should follow each command.

  • diskpart
  • list disk
  • select disk #
  • select volume 0 (Replace 0 with the volume number you want)
  • attributes volume set readonly

Step 3. Type "Exit" to quit the Command Prompt.

If you want to disable the write protection afterward, refer to the link below.
