Can You Use Migration Assistant between Two Different OS?

I'd like to transfer my files from Mojave to Catalina, but I'm not sure if I can use the Migration Assistant app to do so, between Macs running different versions of Mac OS. Can you answer this question for me? All answers will be appreciated!

You can use Migration Assistant with Two Different OS. You can copy or move all of your documents, apps, user accounts, and settings to a new Mac from the old one.

Things to do beforehand:

  • Update Migration Assistant on both computers.
  • It's best to make sure that both computers have the same Wi-Fi connection.
  • Turn antivirus or firewall software off until you're done.

Follow the steps one by one below:

Step 1. On your new Mac:

  1. Open Migration Assistant in Applications > Utilities and click Continue.
  2. When Migration Assistant asks you for permission, enter your administrator password and click OK.
  3. Then, select the option to transfer from a Mac, Time Machine backup, or startup disk and click Continue.

Step 2. On your old Mac:

  1. Open Migration Assistant in Applications > Utilities and click Continue.
  2. Select the option to transfer to another Mac and click Continue

Step 3. On your new Mac, select transfer from the other Mac and click Continue.

Step 4. On your old Mac, enter the same security code as on your new Mac and click Continue.

Step 5. On your new Mac, select the information you want to transfer and click Continue.
