Method 1. Restore deleted/lost Excel from recycle bin

If you accidentally deleted your excel file - .xlsx or .xls file into Recycle Bin, you can directly undelete them from the recycle bin on your own:

Step 1. Open Recycle Bin and find deleted .xlsx or .xls files inside it.

Open Recycle Bin and find lost Excel file.

Step 2. Right-click on lost XLSX/XLS files and select Restore.

Method 2. Recover lost .xlsx/.xls from .tmp folder

Since due to Microsoft Office data security protection policy, Microsoft Office, Word, PowerPoint, etc. are all added with an AutoRecovery feature. Once it's turned on, Microsoft Office will create a TEMP folder to save temporary excel or word files saved or unsaved.

Step 1. Find the Excel temp files with .TMP extension of your lost files.

For Windows 10/8/8.1 users: C:\Users\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\UnsavedFiles

For Windows 7/XP users: C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\ 

Step 2. Find the temporary excel files which begin with "$" or "~" and end with ".TMP" extension.

Step 3. Copy these files and save to another secure location, changing the extension from ".TMP" to ".XLS" or ".XLSX".
