Windows 10 Won't Read SD Cards Unless I Reformat Them

My laptop, run by Windows 10, has a built-in SD card reader. It will not read my card unless I format it. But if I format it, I will lose all the photos stored. Therefore, I want to know what the reason is causing this problem and what I should do to solve this problem.
