How to Change Boot Drive from HDD to SSD?

I recently bought an SSD to replace my old HDD in the hopes of improving the performance of my computer. I'm completely ignorant of computers, though. I also don't know how to configure the SSD as the boot disk after the clone. I have no idea how to transfer the OS from HDD to SSD. How can I change my boot drive from an HDD to an SSD?

To change your boot drive from HDD to SSD, you need to utilize disk cloning software like EaseUS Disk Copy to transfer everything from HDD to SSD, then set the cloned SSD as your boot drive in the BIOS settings.

The following is how to change the boot drive to SSD from HDD:

Part 1. Migrate OS from HDD to SSD

You can clean install Windows 10/11 on a new SSD, but it is time-consuming and laborious because you must use the Windows Media Creation Tool to do that. Fortunately, there is a better way out. You can move your Windows to an SSD via cloning since cloning can help you copy your Windows installation to an SSD.

To this end, you need to use third-party cloning utilities, like EaseUS Disk Copy, because Windows has no built-in cloning features.

EaseUS disk cloning software is a dedicated and easy-to-use cloning program for Windows computers. It can help you clone your system from HDD to SSD, SSD to SSD, or HDD to SSD. In addition, it can let you transfer data from one SSD to another and create a sector-by-sector clone of your disk. The following is how to clone HDD to SSD:

Step 1. To clone HDD to SSD, select the HDD on your PC as the source disk in "Disk Mode" and tap "Next".

Step 2. Choose another SSD connected to your PC as the destination disk.

Step 3. Check the disk layout of your SSD by selecting "Autofit the disk", "Copy as the source", or "Edit disk layout".

Step 4. Click "Proceed" to perform the task.

Part 2. Set SSD as Boot Drive in BIOS

After cloning your HDD to SSD, you can set the SSD as the boot drive in the BIOS configuration. Here is how to go for it:

  • Step 1. Restart your PC and press one BIOS key to go to the BIOS setup window. This BIOS key varies in PC brand but is usually F2, F12, Delete, or Esc.
  • Step 2. Go to the Boot tab and top the SSD on the boot order list via the arrow key.
  • Step 3. Save changes and exit the BIOS settings.
  • Step 4. Reboot the PC, and your PC will boot from the SSD drive.

To change boot drive to SSD from HDD, you need to migrate your Windows 10 from HDD to SSD using EaseUS Disk Copy and then set the SSD as your first boot device in the BIOS settings.
