It is unusual when you get only 8% of the formatting process after 7 hours of use. You can always terminate the formatting process, as stopping the formatting does not cause the drive to fail. All you need to do is right-click on the target disk in Disk Management and select "Cancel Format."

If the problem is with the external connection, you can try replacing the USB cable connected to the HDD and changing the USB port.

Then use professional software to reformat your Seagate Backup Plus 4TB HDD. I recommend using EaseUS Partition Master Free to ensure a safe and fast format.

This professional software supports the formatting of any brand and any device. You don't have to spend much time on formatting to solve the problem: Step 1.

Step 1. Open EaseUS Partition Master, right-click on the drive you want to format, and click "Format."

Step 2. Set the formatting format and click "OK."

Step 3. Agree to the warning window and click on "Execute 1 Task(s)," and then click on "Apply."

EaseUS Partition Master can speed up the formatting process and increase the success rate. Besides, Use the tool to check the SMART status if nothing has changed and refer to this article: check SMART status, to know the detailed information.
