[Fixed!] SD Card Not Showing on Finder But Seen in Disk Utility

My Mac will recognize USB drives but not SD cards. My external hard drive via USB is fine. However, when inserting an SD card, it will not show up on Finder but will show up on Disk Utility. I am not sure how to fix this.

If your SD Card is not showing on Finder but is seen in Disk Utility, don't worry! The SD card not showing in Finder error can be solved with a small setting change. You should check the settings to display the SD card on the sidebar in Finder, following the steps below:

Step 1. Go to "Finder", select "Preferences", and go to the "Sidebar" option.

Step 2. Check "External disks" under "Fidner Preferences > Show these items in the sidebar > Locations".

Then, your SD card will appear in the Finder sidebar, so you can find your SD card on a Mac quickly. However, if a more complicated situation arises, where changing the settings doesn't make your SD card successfully appear in the Finder window, don't fret. In this case, it's suggested that you can use Mac data recovery software to recover your SD card data first, then, try the first aid feature in Disk Utility to check your SD card.

Step 1. Launch the EaseUS SD card data recovery tool on your Mac, and choose the SD card.

Step 2. Click "Search for lost data" to locate all the recoverable data on the SD card.

Step 3. Choose the data you want, and click "Recover" to get it back.

Here are the possible causes why your SD card is not showing up in Finder but is seen in Disk Utility:

  • ❌The SD card is formatted incorrectly.
  • 😭Physical damage to the SD card.
  • ⚠️Data corruption on the SD card.
  • 😫System errors on your Mac.
  • ⛔Mounting errors between the SD card and Mac.

Open your Disk Utility, choose your SD card in the external device panel, and click on the "First Aid" button at the top menu. Wait for the first aid process to complete. You can repeat this process two or three times to make sure your SD card errors are solved.

If the First Aid process has failed, consider reformatting your SD card to a macOS-compatible file format after saving data from the SD card with EaseUS software.
