Fix OWC Thunderbay Drives Won't Mount on MacBook Pro M1

I have had an external OWC Thunderbay 4-bay system for years, and it really works great on all of my Intel Macs. But when I connected it to my new Mac, MacBook Pro M1, it refused to mount, and I have no idea why this happened.

If you are an external hard drive owner and you found that your OWC Thunderbay drives won't mount on MacBook Pro M1, you can first try fixing it in the following two methods:

Wipe all data on your external hard drive:

  • Carefully connect your external hard drive to your Mac
  • Go to the Applications folder in the Finder and click "Disk Utility"
  • On the storage media management windows, choose the external hard drive that you want to wipe and click "Erase"
  • Tap on the "Security Options" and move your pointer to the right to DOE 3-pass secure erase position
  • Click "Erase" to erase your external hard drive

Reinstall your macOS:

  • Restart your Mac
  • Hold the Command and R keys when your computer restarts. Release them when you see the Apple logo on your screen
  • Now, choose "Reinstall macOS" in macOS Recovery
  • Select your hard disk in the next window after click9ing "Agree"
  • Click "Install" to reinstall your macOS
