Can Somebody Tell Me Should My SSD Be MBR or GPT? Which Is Better?

I have some SSDs. I want to know which partition table should I use for the SSD. But I don't know the difference between MBR and GPT. Can someone tell me how to choose, and is there any way to convert between them? I would appreciate your answers.

Are you the one who doesn't know should your SSD be MBR or GPT?  I will give you the answer you want. First, I will introduce the differences between MBR and GPT from the below aspects, which can help you choose a suitable partition scheme for your SSD.

  • Disk capacity: MBR can support up to 2 TB hard drives. GPT can work on drives that their size are more than 3TB.
  • Partition number: MBR is limited to creating three primary and one extended partition. GPT can hold up to 128 primary partitions and countless logical partitions.
  • OS compatibility: MBR can be compatible with 32-bit Windows 10/8.1 and Windows versions before 8. GPT is suitable for all the higher Windows versions except for 32-bit Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 editions.
  • Supported boot mode: MBR can be used on the older operating system or computer that supports Legacy BIOS, while GPT needs to boot from UEFI boot mode.

It's not difficult to conclude that GPT is more powerful and has better compatibility with modern hardware. However, the choice can vary for different situations. Also, It doesn't mean you have to use the same partition forever. I will introduce a tangible way to help you convert between MBR and GPT.

To successfully convert the disk, you'd better try EaseUS Partition Master, which is a one-for-all professional disk converter. This tool lets you quickly change the disk from MBR to GPT and vice versa.

Learn to use EaseUS Partition Master by following the full guide below:

Step 1. Ensure you have a backup of all your data, including the operating system, application, and settings.

Step 2. Launch EaseUS Partition Master by the download button and open it.

Step 3. Find the "Disk Converter" tool on the left side and choose "Convert MBR to GPT" or "Convert GPT to MBR" and select "Next."
