SD Write Protected After Installing Games, How to Fix

I have a micro SD memory, which I'm able to open its file and read the content, but I cannot write or format it. I tried scanning it for viruses with Kaspersky and windows defender, but it seems clean. I also scanned it for corrupted sectors, but it seems to be ok. I've tried everything: CMD, clear attributes read-only command, several software to remove the write protection, and tried to format it on a Linux-based OS, but nothing unlocks it. Any idea for a possible solution? Thanks in advance.

If your SD became write-protected after installing games, then there are three possibilities when you see a message telling you that your SD card is write-protected:

  • The SD card has been attacked by unknown viruses or malware, so the device gets into write protection mode to prevent missing data.
  • The format of the games needs to be corrected for your SD card since the error shows after installing the games.
  • Your SD card uses flash memory, with limited time for writing and modifying the data.

Before fixing the problem, check if your physical switch is on the "OFF" side. (The toggle switch is usually on the side or at the bottom.)

There are several standard solutions, but to save you precious time, we will show you the fastest and easiest method, EaseUS Partition Master Free, because all it takes is a few easy steps. EaseUS Partition Master is a full-featured software that developed a Write Protection Removal tool to help you remove the write protection from your SD card. In addition, you can also enable write protection on your external hard drive in a similar way.

Follow the three steps to remove the write protection on your SD card:

Step 1. Launch the EaseUS Partition Master on your computer.

Step 2. Find the "Toolkit" section on the left, and click "Write Protection."

Step 3. Select your write-protected SD card, and tap the "Disable" button.

After finishing, reconnect your SD card to the PC and check if you can write the data.

EaseUS Partition Master also plays a vital role in partition management. For instance, it can create/delete partitions, merge/move partitions, and resize/move partitions.
