Can I Transfer Windows 7 From My Laptop to My New Desktop?

Hi! I have bought a new desktop recently, and I was wondering if I could somehow transfer Windows 7 from my laptop to my new Desktop? If it's possible, how can I do it? Thanks in advance.

The answer depends on which type your Windows system license is:

  • If it's a retail upgrade license - yes. You can transfer your Windows to another computer and boot from it.
  • If it's an OEM license - no. OEM license means your Windows is preinstalled on the computer before purchase, which is tied to the first computer and can not be transferred to other computers.

For the second situation, you can install Windows on a different computer by buying another copy. However, if you are experiencing the first scenario, you can always trust EaseUS Partition Master. It's a professional migration software that can help you transfer all data on the system partition, including the Windows system. Continue to follow the passage and realize the Windows transfer between PCs.

Part 1. Preparation for Windows migration

Before starting the OS migration process, you need to take out the disk of the new desktop and connect it to the old laptop. Don't forget

Step 3. Check the warning message and select "Yes" to confirm. Then, click the disk layout options to customize it after previewing your target disk's layout.

Step 4. Click "Start" to transfer Windows 7 to the new disk.

Part 3. Set up the boot drive in BIOS

With the above steps completed, you also need to make the desktop boot from the new disk. There is a step-by-step guide on how to set up the boot drive:
