I Get 'Formatting the Disk Has Failed' Error in Windows Server Backup Schedule, Help!

I failed to configure a Windows Server Backup schedule to 2 external hard drives. Once the Server Backup wizard starts to format my external hard drive, I get the error message 'formatting the disk has failed.' What should I do to remove this error?

The first thing you can do is reconnect your external hard drive to the PC and see if this error is removed. Follow the guide below to fix it if nothing goes better. Also, you can remove your external hard drives from USB enclosures and figure out their manufacturer and use their specific utility to format them first.

If this error message disappears, you can use a third-party tool, EaseUS Partition Master, to format it.

Step 1. Download EaseUS Partition Master and click it open.

Step 2. In the "Partition Manager" section, choose your disk and right-click on it.

Step 3. Click "Format" and set the partition label, allocation unit size, and file systems. Then, click "Execute the task" to finish the process.

This third-party software is easy to use, so even if you are a beginner, you can make the process smooth.

However, if this error message still pops up, you may need to replace it with a new one to try again and send the old one to the maintenance center. Besides, there is a link to help you to check why you can't format external hard drive or an internal hard drive.
