How to Fix External USB Drive Permissions Preventing File Recovery

My Seagate 2TB External USB Backup Plus drive (6 months old) became unusable/accessible overnight; here are the steps I took to enable read/write capabilities, so I could reformat the drive and then run a file recovery on it. According to what I've discovered, Seagate has read-only rights. This adjustment did not affect my ability to format the drive and run recovery. Any recommendations?

The hard drive with a read-only status suggests that you can't change what is on it. First and foremost, the drive is now unallocated except for the 5MB EFI partition in the front. Because there is no file system in this area, you cannot format unallocated space. You don't want to create a partition and Format it if you're trying to recover files from the unallocated space because that will overwrite the contents.

The most likely causes are deletion and virus attacks. For example, you may remove the partition on the USB by accident or have a program do it for you. It's also possible that you were performing activities that needed you to destroy partitions but were unaware of. Furthermore, it's not surprising that harmful virus attacks might have various undesirable consequences, including a USB becoming unallocated.

In such instances, data loss always occurs concurrently with the partition's conversion to unallocated space. Fortunately, you may easily restore an unallocated space on a USB or SD card and recover your contents.

You may try to log in as an administrator, access a read-only USB drive, and remove the read-only state from the USB flash drive.

When you connect to a computer using another user account but not as the administrator, you may encounter difficulties acquiring authorization to read and write on storage devices. So, if you have a read-only state USB disk on your computer, consider logging in as an administrator first.

If you don't have the Administrator's permission, you can use the EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard tool to recover your data. These tools frequently succeed in how to recover corrupted files from USB.
