If you are on Debian Linux and '/dev/sda1' is your exFAT partition, you can:
- Install the exfat-fuse program and try to mount it
- If it auto-mounted, run the command: df
- If your exfat-fuse program is not mounted, run the command: blkid
This method may encounter many problems during its process, informing you how to compile exfat-fuse from source. Still, it is difficult for computer novices, especially for users with zero coding knowledge.
So if this approach is too complex for you, using a third-party data recovery software will be a better way to recover exFAT files from an external hard drive, such as EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, which is relatively easier and faster, especially for novice computer users.
And to avoid irreversible secondary damage caused by manipulating the hard drive during the repair/recovery process, you can first image the hard drive's contents.
