Recover Deleted Data from Virtual Machine [Windows 2008 R2]

I found many files deleted from my Windows 2008 R2, and I was wondering to restore these deleted files with a recovery utility. So, is it possible to recover these files at the vmdk level?

You must immediately check your backup plans. The best option for you is to restore all the deleted files from a previous backup. It is never a good idea to try to recover a deleted file from a file system since doing so involves risk. The danger of file corruption exists only if you can recover the deleted files using an undelete or file system tool.

1. Restore files from backups. Open the Control Panel, then click "System and Security". Click on "File History", and you are able to restore personal files. Go to the folder where you keep the Virtual Machine image, and restore this folder to a previous version.

2. Recover data from this Virtual Machine manually. Create a new Virtual Server on your computer, and add a new drive to this server. It's time to browse the corrupt VHD file's location. Compress the files, and copy this VHD file to the original server location. Adding the VHD file to their original server will be the last step, then you can check the lost files.

3. The last method is downloading EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to recover deleted files from the Virtual Machine. You should figure out where the deleted files are located before and scan the target disk to find these lost files on your computer. The second step is filtering the files while or after scanning. Select the files you want and leave the unimportant files. Finally, you can click the Recover button to restore these deleted files.

It will be wise to keep Virtual Machine backups on your external hard drive, and you will not panic when you encounter accidental deletion next time.

Use EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to recover deleted or lost files easily and quickly.
