There are two methods to help you with recovery of corrupted .XLS files when you meet the error 'The file format and extension of .XLS doesn't match'.
The one is to recover your Excel files through third-party software, EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, which is proficient in recovering corrupted Excel files due to Excel application corruption, malware infection, Excel internal error, or other unknown reasons.
How to use EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard:
Step 1. Install EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, and scan the drive where your corrupted Excel locate.
Step 2. Use the file filter and choose the Excel file type or type your file name in the search box.
Step 3. Preview the corrupted file and click 'Recover' to save the wanted Excel file to a proper location.
The other method is to use the Open and Repair Inbuilt tool. Here are the steps:
Step 1. Click the file tab and go for the open option.
Step 2. Select the Excel file you want.
Step 3. Hit the button next to the open and choose the Open and Repair option from the drop-down menu.
Step 4. Click 'Repair'.
If the repair solution does not work for you, repeat the steps and click 'Extract Data' instead of 'Repair' so that you can extract your data from the Excel file.
