How to Fix Corrupted External Hard Drive on Mac, MacBook Air/Pro

Hello, when I plug in my external hard drive to my Mac, I found some problems. When I open a file, it hangs and it takes too long to recognize it. I tried to reformat my external hard disk, but it says to reformat it unsuccessfully. I think my external hard drive is corrupted, how to fix it?

When you find your external hard drive is acting weird, you should check the connection issue first. How to check the connection issue? Use a new cable to connect the external hard drive or use another Mac device.
