How to Recover Files from RAW Format NTFS with Intact Directories

The tool (GParted) crashed as I attempted to resize a partition, leaving me with an unreadable HDD (2TB). Attempts to restore data using testdisk to rewrite the partition table were unsuccessful. I was curious if there was a less expensive, more practical (something I could use on other PCs, for example), or even a FOSS answer to this issue.

Partition resizing is more involved than just editing a disk partition table. Partition moves and merges that go wrong are frequently more complicated file recovery scenarios since connecting file system entries to a specific file system is more challenging, depending on precisely what you did. So it would be best to try a robust partition recovery software - EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard.

Here are the steps for recovering lost partitions:

Step 1. Open the EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, choose the "Lost Partition" option, and press "Scan" to review all the lost data. If there are a lot of lost partitions, you can count them by their size. The software will recognize the Ext2 or Ext3 partition as a lost partition with no drive letter because the Windows operating system does not support the Linux file system.

Step 2. You can pick a file category for expedient filtering because there will be several scanned files, such as Images, Videos, Documents, Audio, and Others. You can also use the search box in the top right corner if you know the file name.

Step 3. You can preview the file before recovery to ensure it has the required information. Choose all the needed files, then select "Recover" to get them back.

You can also use two other simple methods to convert RAW to NTFS:

  • Launch Command Prompt and use the administrator setting. Enter C: /FS: NTFS after typing Diskpart in the CMD window, followed by Enter to confirm your entry. (Substitute your RAW hard disk's drive letter for C.)
  • To use this technique, you must format the hard drive. Right-click the RAW drive in Disk Management by opening it, then choose "Format". By default, the quick format is selected in the options; press OK to begin formatting. After formatting, you can read and write data on this hard disk.

Use EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard to recover deleted or lost files easily and quickly.
