What Is the Best Way to Replace My SSD Drive Without Losing Any Data?

I have a Windows 11 PC with a 1TB HDD and 250GB M.2 SSD. I have just bought a new 1TB M.2 SSD and want to replace the old 250GB one. How can I swap my old SSD to the new SSD without losing my data?

The best way to transfer SSD to new SSD without losing data is to clone the old drive directly.

Compared with moving data from one drive to another by creating a disk image and restoring, the process of cloning M.2 SSD is much simpler. It helps make a 100% identical copy of files, programs, OS, and all data from the source drive to the target drive. No data loss, no OS reinstallation, and ensure secure boot.

To make sure you can swap SSD effectively and easily, use reliable disk cloning software like EaseUS Disk Copy. (Windows 11, 10, 8, or 7 have no built-in cloning tools.)

Its intuitive interface and stepwise instructions can make your disk cloning process easier than ever. Download EaseUS Disk Copy to your computer and see how to upgrade a smaller SSD to a larger SSD without clean installing your Windows in a few clicks.

Preparations

1. Backup files on the new SSD if there are existing data. The cloning process will erase all data on the target drive.

2. A screwdriver to open the laptop or desktop backup case.

3. A USB-to-SATA cable, an M.2 to USB cable, or a hard drive enclosure to connect the new SSD to your computer.

Step 1. Connect the new SSD on your computer properly. Install and launch EaseUS Disk Copy on your PC.

Step 2. Go to Disk Mode, select the old SSD as the source drive and the new SSD as the target drive, and click Next.

Step 3. Under Disk layout, select Autofit the disk, Copy as the source, or Edit disk layout to manage the SSD layout of the destination solid-state drive.

Step 4. Click Continue in the notification popup. Click Proceed to initiate the cloning task.

Step 5. When the cloning process is finished, disconnect the target SSD and power off your PC.

Step 6. Use the screwdriver to remove the old SSD from its slot and install the old SSD in the slot.

Step 7. Power on your computer and boot from cloned SSD.

Now, you can use the new SSD to run computer and storage data.
