Hi, I got a new Windows 10 computer, and I would like to back up my files from Documents, Pictures, Videos, and Music to an external hard drive. I used to copy and paste these files manually, but it has been inconvenient. So, I would rather like a backup method to back up only changes or new files to my external hard drive. Is there a way in Windows 10 to automatically update new/changed files to an external drive? Many thanks for considering my request.
Incremental backup can meet your need if you want to back up only changed or new files to your external hard drive. An incremental backup is a type of backup strategy that backs up data that has been altered or newly created since the last backup. It will compare and skip those same files and only store changed ones. It has many advantages compared with a full backup, which can help to save time and space, as well as improve the security and reliability of your backed-up data.
To perform an incremental backup, you can use third-party software, like EaseUS Todo Backup to save your altered files to the external hard drive. EaseUS Todo Backup is a professional backup and recovery program that can conduct not only incremental backup but also differential backup, full backup, compressed backup, as well as encrypted backup. With it, you can save your backup to multiple paths. Download and follow the steps below to incremental backup of your files:
Step 1. Connect your hard drive to your computer.
Step 2. Launch EaseUS Todo Backup, and click "Create a backup" on the main page.
Step 3. Select "File" as the backup source, and choose the files that you need to back up.
Step 4. Then click the "Option" button, turn to the "Bakcup Scheme" tab, and choose the "Incremental backup" scheme.
Step 5. Choose the external hard drive as the target location, and click "Backup now" to start the process.
When the backup finishes, unplug your external hard drive, and you will have a backup of all your files.
