I purchased a Dell XPS 15 a few years ago, it was the HDD version and didn't have much storage. I would like to be able to replace the HDD with an SSD, and I have already purchased a new Samsung SSD. but now I am a little confused as to what my next step should be. What should I do to make the replacement?
First of all, if you require to install your existing Windows system onto a new SSD, then you must first use a professional tool like EaseUS Disk Copy to clone the original HDD and create bootable media in order to ensure that your system can boot from the new SSD.
EaseUS Disk Copy is one of the best professional cloning programs on the market today; not only can it create a complete clone of your HDD or SSD in a very short time, and it can do all common cloning jobs more efficiently.
If you just need to install a brand new Windows onto your SSD, then replacing your HDD with an SSD is not so difficult, and you can start by following the specific guide I have given below.
To begin with, you need to prepare the following tools:
Once you've made sure all your tools are ready, follow these 9 steps to replace your HDD with an SSD.
Step 1. Discharge the Dell battery below 25% and power it down. Then use the T5 Torx screwdriver to remove the eight 3.3 mm-long screws and unfasten the back over.
Step 2. Insert the opening pick between the lower left side of the back cover and the chassis, and leave the pick.
Step 3. Then insert a flat into the gap, and pry up the back cover to release the pick. Repeat the steps for the opposite corner.
Step 4. Pry the cover and remove the back cover.
Step 5. Use the spudger to disconnect the square tabs of the battery connector from the socket.
Step 6. Use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the long screws holding the HDD cover in place.
Step 7. Hold the HDD cover near the edge of the screw retention port and remove it.
Step 8. Pull the HDD straight out of the slot and remove it.
Step 9. Take the SSD you have prepared, put it into the SSD slot, and perform the above steps in reverse order to complete the replacement.
