Before cloning the disk, you need to make some preparations to ensure a smooth cloning process.

1️⃣Please ensure your SSD is as large as your external HDD or larger than it.

2️⃣Connect the SSD to your PC if it's an external drive.

3️⃣Since the disk clone process will erase all the existing data on your SSD, you'd better back up its data via a third-party backup tool like EaseUS Todo Backup if your SSD is a used drive.

4️⃣If your SSD is a new one, please initialize it via Disk Management.

  • Press Win + X and select Disk Management to open it > right-click on your target SSD > choose Initialize Disk > set the same partition style as your external HDD by selecting MBR or GPT.

Let's show how to clone an HDD to an SSD easily via EaseUS Disk Copy.

  • Step 1. After connecting your external hard drive, install and launch EaseUS Disk Copy.
  • Step 2. Click Disk Mode > select your connected external HDD as the source drive > click Next.
  • Step 3. Select your SSD as the destination drive > click Next > choose Edit disk layout > Check the option if the target is SSD > click Proceed.
  • Step 4. Click Continue to wipe out your SSD's data > click OK > wait patiently.
