Relax if your computer gets stuck at halfway while copying. EaseUS software has gathered some useful tips and methods for you to follow and stop ‘file copy stuck’ error with ease now.

How to Fix "Copying files stops halfway" Error

Method 1. Wait for the file copying process to complete

If you have time and patience, the first thing that you can try is to wait for the file copying process complete. Do nothing and just wait for the system to complete the file transfer process. The only problem is that you may have to wait for a very long time.

If you don't have enough time or patience, you can try the following methods to fix this error.

Method 2. Update All Drivers to Fix "File stops copying halfway"

If the computer or USB hard drive drivers are outdated, basic functions such as file copying may not be able to work properly. Therefore, it is possible that updating the driver can fix the problem under discussion.

  • Download latest drivers for BIOS, Chipset, HDD and IDE Controllers.
  • Open Device Manager.
  • Right-click on the device you want to update the driver for and click Update driver.

Method 3. Format the Drive to Which You Are Transfering Data in NTFS

Sometimes the only reason for copying files stops halfway is that the device isn’t formatted properly. So, you can format your USB drives or external hard drives in a proper way.

EaseUS partition software is a popular disk partition management tool which is available for all disk or partition related jobs such as format disk partition, extend system partition, settle low disk space problem, convert MBR to GPT without data loss and vice versa. You can try it whenever you want to format your device in a proper way.

Before you format your USB drive or other devices to fix "file transfer speed 0 bytes" issue, you'd better backup your data to avoid data loss.

Step 1. Connect your USB flash drive or pen drive to your PC, and launch EaseUS partition tool. Select and right-click the device you want to format and choose "Format partition" by right-clicking the mouse.

open the tool and choose format partition

Step 2. Configure the label you want in the Partition Label box.

Step 3. Select the file system type to be created from the "File System" drop-down list. (FAT/FAT32, NTFS, EXT2/EXT3).

select the file system

If the USB drive is larger than 4GB, you can only choose FAT32, NTFS or EXT2/EXT3, and if the partition is smaller than 4GB, you can choose FAT, FAT32, NTFS or EXT2/EXT3.

Step 4. Choose the Cluster Size (512 bytes, 1, 2, 4...64KB) from the drop-down list and click "OK" to apply the format operation.

choose the cluster size

Note: Smaller cluster size makes less wasting of disk space. The smaller cluster size is, the bigger file allocation table (FAT) will be. The bigger the FAT is, the slower the operating system works with the disk.

Step 5. Click "Apply" to format the USB flash drive or pen drive with a slow copy or transfer speed.
