"Help my hard drive is full!

Where is all my disk space going?

My hard drive hardly has got any space left!

I am constantly running out of disk space!"

A few ways to recover some extra hard drive space

So your Mac is running a bit slowly… Here's a few different ways to recover some extra hard drive space. Basically there are lots of files you can probably get rid of, and here's now to find them.

1. Remove all the extra language files.

Mac OS X comes with almost 50 languages, chances are you only speak one or two. Remove all the language files you don't need.

2. Clear out your Library/Application Support folder

Have a look in your Macintosh HD /Library/Application Support folder and there may be some old folders from applications you have deleted but no longer use. You can delete them.

3. Clear out your printers

This is like the languages, but for printer drivers. OS X comes ready to work with hundreds of printers, chances are you only have one or two. Have a look in Macintosh HD /Library/Printers and delete any folders for printers you don't need.

4. Empty the Trash

The most basic thing is to empty your Trash regularly. Unless you're unsure of whether you need a deleted file later, there's no reason to have a Trash full of files. But this is not the only trash you need to empty. Empty the trash in iPhoto, iMovie, and Mail, too.

5. Clean junk files.

Junk files are temporary files that are created when programs are executed and require some information to be temporarily stored in system. They are not automatically removed by the executed program that generated these files. When these junk files left in the system, they not only take up precious disk space but also slows down the system performance when hundreds and thousands of them are stored and are totally useless.
