How to make a FaceTime call on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Every iDevice, including iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Mac is pre-installed FaceTime app. Users can make a FaceTime call with family and friends at any time as long as you're on Wi-Fi or cellular data. This tutorial article covers all information on making FaceTime call on iPhone and iPad.

Available devices for FaceTime

With Wi-Fi or cellular data, you can use FaceTime on any of these devices: iPhone 4 or later, iPad 2 or later, iPad mini (all models), iPod touch 4th generation or later (only iPod touch 5th generation supports FaceTime audio calling).

How to sign in FaceTime

Before you can make a FaceTime call, you need to be registered and sign in FaceTime on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod.

1. Open your FaceTime app on your device and sign in with your Apple ID, or go to Settings>FaceTime. 

2. For iPhone users, FaceTime automatically registers with your phone number. If you want to also register your email address, go to Settings>FaceTime>Use your Apple ID for FaceTime>sign in. 

3. For iPad or iPod touch users, you need to register FaceTime with your email address. Go to Settings>FaceTime>Use your Apple ID for FaceTime>sign in.

How to make a FaceTime audio call

Note: To ensure you have a smooth FaceTime call, you'd better be on a good Wi-Fi or cellular network. Besides, memory cleaning to make iPhone faster is also necessary for a happy FaceTime call.  

1. Open FaceTime app from your Home screen.

2. Tap the search bar in the upper center of the screen.

3. Enter the name, email or number of the contact you'd like to call.

4. Tap the contact.

5. Tap the phone button under the name.

How to make a FaceTime video call

1. Open FaceTime app from your Home screen.

2. Tap the search bar in the upper center of the screen.

3. Enter the name, email or number of the contact you'd like to call.

4. Tap the contact.

5. Tap the video button under the name.

How to switch from a regular call to FaceTime 

You are able to begin a FaceTime video call on your iPhone during a regular call.

1. Open the current call menu.

2. Tap on the FaceTime virtual button.

Note here: If the person on the other end is using a FaceTime available device, the call will be converted to a FaceTime call immediately. And if the FaceTime is grayed out, that means FaceTime is not available and you won't be able to select it. 

How to use Siri to make a FaceTime call

Users can active Siri and make an audio or video FaceTime call via Siri.

1. Press and hold the Home button or say "Hey Siri" to activate Siri.

2. Say open FaceTime. When Siri asks you to specify whether you want a video or audio call, and who you'd like to FaceTime, speak out your needs.

3. Wait for Siri to connect the FaceTime call.
