Tip 2: How to fix iPhone is disabled Connect to iTunes via Recovery Mode

If you can't use iTunes to restore your iPhone to solve the problem, using Recovery Mode can help you remove your iPhone passcode and thus unlock your iPhone.

Step 1: Connect your iPhone to your computer and open iTunes.

Step 2: When your iPhone is connected, force restart your iPhone.

  • For iPhone X/8/8 Plus: Quickly press and release the Volume Up button. Quickly press and release the Volume Down button. Hold down the Side button until the recovery-mode screen appears.
  • For iPhone 7/7 Plus: Hold down both Side and Volume Down buttons simultaneously until the recovery-mode screen appears.
  • For iPhone 6s and earlier: Hold down both Home and the Top (or Side) buttons at the simultaneously. Release the buttons when you see the recovery-mode screen.

If you have turned on Find My iPhone on your disabled iPhone before the issue happened, you can use this method to erase your iPhone via iCloud.com and the set it up as new.

Step 1: Open a browser on your computer and visit iCloud.com.

Step 3: Choose Find iPhone > All Devices > [your iPhone].

Step 4: Click Erase iPhone, choose Erase to confirm and then enter your Apple ID password.

Step 5: After your iPhone is erased, set up and use your iPhone as a new one. If you have backed up your iPhone via iCloud, you can choose to restore iPhone from iCloud backup during the setup process.
