"How does find my iPhone work?", some people ask. Find My iPhone enables you to locate you iDevices (including iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch), Apple Watch, AirPods and Mac if they are lost and protects your information by remote erasing. You can get access to Find My iPhone via iCloud.com or Find My iPhone App. Read on to know how to turn on Find My iPhone and how to use it.

How to turn on Find My iPhone

To use the features, you first need to set up Find My iPhone on your device.

1. Go to "Settings" App.
2. Tap on your name and select "iCloud".(For iOS 10.2 and earlier users, choose "iCloud" directly.)
3. Scroll down to tap on "Find My iPhone" and toggle it on.

Tip 1: Use Find My iPhone via iCloud.com

If you devices are lost, no worry, you can use Find My iPhone on a computer.

1. Go to iCloud.com and sign in.
2. Choose "Find iPhone" among the options.
3. Click on "All Devices" and choose the name of your device.
4. Then you can locate your device on the map or you can choose a mode for your device, including Play Sound (play a sound and help you find your device nearby), Lost Mode (lock and track your device) and Erase iPhone (wipe all the personal information on your device).

Tip 2: Use Find My iPhone on iDevices

If you have set up Family Sharing (see "Notes" section), you can easily find your family members' device on your device. Or you can use one iDevice to find the other.

1. Open "Find My iPhone" App on your device and sign in.
2. Click on the name of the device you want to find.
3. Tap on "Actions" and you will see 3 options mentioned above, including Play Sound, Lost Mode and Erase iPhone. Choose one according to your need.

If you don't know how to set up Family Sharing on your iDevices, here is the way.

For iOS 10.3 or later users:

1. Go to "Settings".
2. Tap on your name and choose "Set Up Family Sharing".
3. Choose "Get Started" and follow the steps.

For iOS 10.2 or earlier users:

1. Go to "Settings" and choose "iCloud".
2. Tap on "Set Up Family Sharing" and continue.
