Preparations:

  • Connect your external hard drive to your computer.
  • Download EaseUS Todo Backup

Step 1. Launch EaseUS backup software and choose the File option on the main window.

Step 2. Select the files or folders you want to backup. Then click "Destination" to select the external hard drive as the backup storage location.

You can also enter "Plan name" and "Description" for specifying your file backup.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  

Click "File Type" if you want to specify certain types of files to backup. Here, multiple types of files including Documents Files, E-mail, Financial Files, Music Files, Picture Files, and Video Files, etc can be selected.

You can also click Add to add a new file type, in Add New Type window, you input Type Name and corresponding file type.

Step 3. Click the "Schedule" option to open the Backup Scheme window, here you can create a scheduled backup plan to backup files later, daily, weekly, monthly or upon event.

The schedule is to create an automatic backup plan. It is not a prerequisite for backup. 

Step 4. Click "Proceed" to back up folders or files to the external hard drive.

Windows 10 Sync Data with Windows Sync Center

Although Sync Center is not able to back up your content to an external drive, you can still use this tool to create a network server backup, and access shared files and folders on your network. Here are the detailed steps of enabling the Sync Center.

Step 1. Open Control Panel on your computer, find "Sync Center."

Step 2. Click "Manage offline files" to enable offline files first.

Step 3. When you click the "Enable offline files" button, Sync Center would ask you to restart the computer.

Step 4. Restart the computer and repeat the above steps to manage offline files settings.

Step 5. There are three tabs: Disk Usage, Encryption, and Network.

  • You can change the disk space the offline files allowed to use by clicking the "change limit" tab in Disk Usage.
  • Encryption is for you to better protect the offline files with a password.
  • With Network, you can choose and set your preferred time for checking the slow connectivity.
