Windows Server Not Detecting Partition More Than 2TB, Help Me

I have a 12TB HDD. My plan is to install win 2k8 R2 in a 100 GB partition of c drive and use the remaining 11.8TB to store images. But after installing the OS, I can see 2TB and 100 GB instead of 10TB. I went to disk management and right-clicked on the unallocated partition to extend the volume. But it pops up an error saying, 'More than 2TB detected'. So how can I see the full disk space and turn it into free space?

Hello, I hope my answer can help you. The disk must be GPT to use the entire amount of space; MBR cannot handle larger disks or volumes.

You cannot start from a GPT volume without UEFI. You must insert two logical disks into the array: one with an initialization of GPT for the "data" volume and one with an MBR for the OS to boot from. You can show just one logical disk from the array and initialize it as a GPT disk if your system has UEFI. Hence, the best way to solve your problem is to convert MBR to a GPT disk.

According to my past experience, Disk Management and Command Prompts both have some limitations, especially when you are a newbie. Hence, I recommend you use a reliable third-party software, EaseUS Partition Master Server. This tool applies to convert MBR to GPT on a data or system in Windows Server 2022/2019/2016/2012.

Here are the guidelines you can use to successfully apply this software to convert a disk to GPT on your own:

Step 1. Download and launch EaseUS Partition Master on your computer.

Step 2. Go to Disk Converter, select "Convert MBR to GPT," and click "Next" to continue.

Step 3. Select the target MBR disk you want to convert, and click "Convert" to start the conversion.

This tool is easier to use compared with other built-in tools. Just try it now.
